The good thing about Book Fair is that you could always find a book that s old but new to you Like folk stories, I grew up with very little of it When I was a child, unlike many of my friends, I had Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and Snow White When I think about it again, I find it awful that I never took the time to read all these stories, the tales passed down from my ancestors through time in hope that it could guide their offspring to lead a good life, a significant life It was never just The good thing about Book Fair is that you could always find a book that s old but new to you Like folk stories, I grew up with very little of it When I was a child, unlike many of my friends, I had Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and Snow White When I think about it again, I find it awful that I never took the time to read all these stories, the tales passed down from my ancestors through time in hope that it could guide their offspring to lead a good life, a significant life It was never just a story The thing about Malay Folklore and Tales, there s alwaysto it There are lessons to be learned and pride of the people not in a bad way attached to it It s too bad that the only one I still remember was Si Tanggang That one pretty much scares me from ever betraying my mother s trust Seriously, being turn into stone isn t exactly life s goal It s probably why I was a little too happy when I stumbled across the book in a small booth hidden away nearby the staircases at the book fair Compare to the rest of the books offered by other exhibitors, the books I found at the booth were definitely cheaper But, it wasn t the reason as to why I choose to buy it I was tired, three hours at a Book Fair is bad, I never stayed too long as it usually would tire me out Still, since I was with my brother, we wandered and found the booth In all honesty, I actually walked passed it, luckily the staff was passing leaflets and I saw a couple of titles that amuses me Panglima Ah Chong was one of it It wasn t because it was funny it was just that I realize how very little I know of my own culture I can t even remember the customs of which I was raised into, in fact, despite the fact that I was raised by my grandmother when I was younger, I knew very little of the tales coming from her own state Perak.It was a good story, filled with lessons one can learn from if they care to look There were jealousy, hatred, friendship, assumptions, betrayal, familial and racial duty It was about a boy named Ah Chong living some hundred years ago in a Malay community He was among the first brought to the Tanah Melayu with his father who came to help mine the earths richest Only that his father ended up becoming a Nelayan Life was good, they co exist and lived well Ah Chong made friends and he was probably happy I wouldn t know He was also close to the girls, one named Melor who would later convinced her father to help Ah Chong to be accepted to learn the Silat a self defense art learn throughout generations of young Malay boys and girls I took it once, honestly, I can tell you, it s hard But, when you re different, there s always jealousy Promises are made to be broken, but when it s an oath, well, it s a different matter It s a short read I finished it within the hour Some part of the story was extremely redundant, but both my brother and I agree, it was a good read Looks like now I know two Malay Folklores I should have bought that other book as well Heard about Panglima Ah Chong since i was 15 yrs old.Wonder its a myth or a history. ^FREE PDF ↝ Panglima Ah Chong ⇱ Kisah dongeng yang pernah diwar warkan oleh orang tua tua Melayu dan Cina di daerah Larut Matang, berlaku di sekitar abad kePersengketaan di antarakongsi gelap iaitu Ghee Hin dan Hai San menyebabkan penjajah Inggeris masuk ke negeri Melayu pada penghujung abad itu dan bersangkut paut dengan peristiwa berdarah melibatkan Ah Chong, seorang lelaki cina
