Horrible, horrible text However, the content is all good it s just everything else that lets it down Although, it s not hard to get the content right, even when you ignore the fact that all the case studies could have been truncated a little and there were too many pages upon pages of examples whenever a certain theory was up for explanation. This over use of examples could be avoided if the language of delivery was a bit clearer and easier to digest You know when you sit down to read a chap Horrible, horrible text However, the content is all good it s just everything else that lets it down Although, it s not hard to get the content right, even when you ignore the fact that all the case studies could have been truncated a little and there were too many pages upon pages of examples whenever a certain theory was up for explanation. This over use of examples could be avoided if the language of delivery was a bit clearer and easier to digest You know when you sit down to read a chapter and after a few pages you feel like you ve been sitting there for a long time With this book, that s an accurate description of how dry and thick the chapters can be.Sure the author has done their research no pun intended and certainly shows that they know a whole lot about different frameworks, theories, methodologies, what have you but there s little thought given to how that information is best related to someone who has never approached the subject before. It s a good text as a resource, but the amount of effort needed to access the wads of information on each page makes me wonder if the content is really worth the price of entry i need this book really really need this good book please beeasy This was definitely a useful reference for my library science course on research methods From a broader perspective, the book also opened my mind to entirely new and different ways of doing research that I d never encountered before, such as case studies and interpretive or constructionist research The chapter on survey research was especially useful. A good overview. The first four chapters were heavy and verbose, no doubt, but things speed up significantly in the subsequent chapters Not the most concise or efficient textbook but I do appreciate the summary tables and review questions It s so thorough, if you didn t get anything, it probably isn t Neuman s fault. So effing dry and info dense I simply did not absorb the material because there was so much of it, and presented in an extremely academic way The best thing he does is give examples of the types of research, but those are few. {Free Book} ô Social Research Methods: Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches Ñ Presents a balanced coverage of qualitative and quantitative methods than any other book on the market, and illustrates how the greatest benefit often comes from combining various approaches It discusses the social and historical context of research, and teaches students to recognize ethnocentric perspectives and the assumptions, values, and beliefs of their own society Chapter , Theory and Research, helps students with no prior coursework in social theory understand the importance of theory and its connection to researchThe book contains many explanatory diagrams and interesting examples drawn from scholarly literature and incorporates feminist and postmodernist theories in the Meaning of Methodologies chapter ChCovers writing a literature review and ethics early in Chapterand concludes with a chapter on writing a research report I have heard from one of my friends that this book is a unique one to be used by the beginners of research I am very much interested in doing research But still I did not do any research by my own That is why I need this book to read.
